Summer is Eva Van Daele-Hunt, a criminal judge by day and a medievalist, musician, and spinner of fantastic tales by night. Fall is Crystal Blum. Crystal is a professional translator who is fluent in at least four languages and proficient in several more, but at heart she is a Mistress of Dreams: filker, fantasy roleplayer, and musician. Summer and Fall hail from the Baden-Württemberg region of Germany, near the Black Forest and the headwaters of the Blue Danube. Summer and Fall have been singing together for six years. They released their first CD, "Last Sunny Day", in the fall of 2006, and they were Interfilk Guests at GAFilk in January 2007. "They were, in a word, fabulous," said Dave Weingart. "Two people shouldn't play all those instruments AND perform so well AND write such haunting songs..., because it's not fair to the rest of us. But they do it so well!" Summer and Fall have also performed many times at FilkCONtinental. Debbie Ohi wrote, "Allison, Jodi and I were all blown away by this immensely talented female duo!" Summer and Fall play at least 14 different instruments: guitar, recorder, flute, whistle, xylophone, glockenspiel, keyboard, bass, bodhran, triangle, krummhorn, metallophone, and other instruments we probably don't know the names of. How will they fit them all in their luggage? "You should see when they come over to rehearse," said Juliane Honisch. "They arrive and unpack and unpack and unpack and unpack..." Summer and Fall are best known for their hauntingly beautiful songs about sinister dolls, paper boats drifting into the sun, and treasure seekers forever lost in the land of winter. But they will also surprise you with a few side-splittingly hilarious songs. Eva's song "Voices in the Wind" was nominated for a Pegasus award in 2005. We are fortunate that Eva's husband Rafael, another wonderful musician, will join Eva and Crystal at Consonance. In the poetic words of Juliane Honisch, "Sometimes, her dark prince joins in, Rafael, adding depth to what is deep already." To find out more about Summer & Fall, check out their web page.
