Consonance 2006: Progress Report 2 WE CAN'T BELIEVE OUR GOOD FORTUNE! Consonance is excited to announce that Filker (oh... and, um, Author) Peter Beagle will be our Special Guest in 2006, joining our distinguished lineup of guests including Bill and Gretchen Roper (GOH), Puzzlebox (TM), Chris Conway (International Guest) and Marty Coady Fabish (Interfilk Guest). Peter had a concert at SiliCon this year, where several concom members had the opportunity to hear him. He welcomes the opportunity to sing his vintage and new material for a larger filkish audience, to hang out, and of -- course to -- sign autographs. (Bring your Peter S. Beagle books!) PROGRAMMING DIVA AGREES TO A COMMAND PERFORMANCE! According to Unwritten Law, the Consonance Programming Chair is never given a concert slot because that would be -- well, unfair. But, doggone it, how unfair is it that everybody in the world gets to hear her perform except us?? So Alan (He Who Holds the Purse-Strings) and I (He Who Must Be, and Occasionally Is, Obeyed) joined forces and asked the one and only Seanan McGuire if she'd do a concert at Consonance in 2006. After a very long Virtual Pause she said, "Oh, okay -- but only if you think nobody will mind." Well, YOU DON'T MIND, DO YOU!? (Didn't think so.) DON'T FORGET THE SONGBOOK! Every year, Filk Song Archivist Lee Gold devotes much time and energy to the Consonance Songbook, "Consonantal Drift"; and, much to her credit, every year it gets bigger and better. Thanks to the miracle of music software, she can publish both lyrics and music.
